The Best of SIFF ‘09

Posted by: Jenni Boran on Wednesday, June 17th, 2009

To anyone who missed out on the magic of SIFF (or anyone who wants to revisit that magic), please see the email below from Naomi at SIFF Community Outreach.  Now’s your chance to enjoy the Best of SIFF ‘09! The program runs from June 19-21, showcasing 13 of the most popular and award-winning films, including Lynn Shelton’s Sundance Special Jury Prize-winning ‘Humpday’ which was co- and assistant- produced by two TheFilmSchool alumni!  For a complete list, please see here.

I am working on Community Outreach for the Seattle International Film Festival. Now that the 25 days of SIFF are over, I wanted to let you and The Film School know about the films that will be presented as part of the “Best of SIFF ‘09″ from June 19-21 at SIFF Cinema.

Missed some of the award winners at the Festival this year? Curious to watch some of those popular films you heard so much about but didn’t see? Check out our Best of SIFF ‘09 weekend at SIFF Cinema where we will screen some of the most popular and award-winning films from the 2009 Seattle International Film Festival.

We are selling individual tickets for $10, as well as Weekend Series Passes for $60 ($50 for SIFF Supporters). Please check out our website for more information and to purchase tickets.

Please let me know if you have any questions. Also, feel free to forward this information to any organization that might be interested.

Thanks and we look forward to seeing you at the Best of SIFF!

Another Competition to get your Creative Wheels spinning

While you’re busy putting together your entry for the Great American Short Screenplay Competition http://www.thefilmschool.com/index.php/screenplay-contest/238 ,  you can use that creative momentum to think ‘feature length’ and come up with an idea for entry in The Ultimate Filmmaker Competition http://ultimatefilmmakercompetition.com/ .  A fellow alum posted this on TheFilmSchool’s LinkedIn network  - thanks!

Resources to get you moving on your Short Script!

With the deadline of the Great American Short Screenplay Contest just three weeks away (June 26th, people!), I thought I’d light a little fire by listing some links that have great tips on how to craft a quality and prize-winning short script.

From the always helpful website of Screenwriter John August (Go, Big Fish, The Nines), Scripting a Short Film

http://johnaugust.com/archives/2008/scripting-a-short-film

A simple straightforward guide to Writing for Short Film, from the BBC Writer’s Room:  http://www.bbc.co.uk/writersroom/writing/tips_shortfilm.shtml

An overview on How to Write a Short Film Script, by Mark Albracht, on Associated Content: http://www.associatedcontent.com/article/1626604/how_to_write_a_short_film_script.html?cat=55

And a very helpful article by Michael Sokolar on STRUCTURING a short script: http://www.sokolar.com/blog/to-structure-a-short-movie/

This is the second year that TheFilmSchool, in partnership with Seattle International Film Festival, is holding the Great American Short Screenplay Contest.  The winning script will be in consideration to be produced as a 2010 SIFF Fly Film Series project, and the writer of the winning script receives free tuition to the Summer Session of TheFilmSchool’s 3-Week-Intensive program.  Last year’s winning script ‘Arthur’ by Joshua Bourland was produced as a SIFF Fly Film and premiered at SIFF in May 2009.  See this link for more details, then get writing!
